Hopefully I have sussed the way to put up an image. Can anyone identify the 3" square box please, and what it does?
On the earlier models that is the location for the knock sensor module... I thought that they kept it there through the 96s??? You had better dbl and trip. check on that before ordering. Normaly the knock-sens. mod. is thinner though???
I know this isn't a definate answer but i am trying to show another possability.
His picture is of the knock sensor module and it is located behind a gasketted cover on the underside of the ECU, with gauze ports to allow condensation to drain and on the underside to prevent the ingress of water. The module he illustrates is clipped in and after (literally) hanging from its clips for a few years, mine decided it was not going to make good contact with the ECU any more or the two knock sensors.
As a result, the Tech 1 said circuits were OK but no knock signal was getting through, nor (as a result) were any error codes being posted. This gives the impression that the circuits are fully functional when they are not.
Hope that helps others. Worth a check if you are getting pinging.
I have a 1989 Vette, and it is called an Electronic Spark Control Module. I don't know what it is for! I posted a thread trying to find out what it is for. The shop manuel does not shed much light on it.
