I favor the DynaSpark. It's a quality piece. I've had one on my '94 for over two years now, and it has performed flawlessly. I no longer even think about the fact that my Vette has an Opti-based ignition system. Peace of mind is worth a few extra $, especially because of how relatively inaccessible the Opti is.

Be well,

SJW

I would definately replace the opti, and I wouldn't use GM. Some peolple are lucky, on two different cars I was not. I went with the dynaspark but to be fair the MSD wasn't available at the time. I haven't had a single problem since.

Default Need part numbers

What are the part numbers for the MSD and DynaSpark Opti Spark units for a 95 LT1?

I checked the MSD site and nothing came up for Opti....is the MSD a completely different unit?

Thanks

MSD Opti Link

This is the one I ended up going with. I'm in the middle of finishing up the install now, and I will post thoughts, comments, and tips I've learned in the process once I get it done.

I just put mine in on my new motor a week ago. There are three mounting bolts for the opti and the right most one (as you are facing the front of the engine) interfered with the waterpump housing. I had to grind down the housing a bit to make it fit.

Ok guys, another question.

I'm to the point now that all that is left is the water pump, belt, and air intake.

I was going to fire it up to make sure everything checked out prior to putting the water pump on, and it won't start! Argh!

Two things. First, the alarm started going off when I connected the battery back. Don't think that should have anything to do with it, as I grabbed the keys, and it stopped when I unlocked the door with the key, so I don't think the alarm has locked out the ignition.

Secondly, the motor spun fast, almost as if it had no compression. Curious. I replaced the plugs, wires, went with an MSD Opti, and all went together fine.

The car *will* start with the ECT, MAP, and IAT sensors unplugged, won't it? If not, that answers my question right away. If not, then I've got some searching to do. Argh!

Edit: Stupid car. Or maybe stupid owner. Who knows. I unplugged the battery, plugged it back in, took the PKE transmitter away from the car to ensure that it armed and disarmed properly, and it fired right up. It does seem a little noisy, almost like I hear something rubbing, but the damper is clear of everything, so I'm guessing it's just the sound from the intake sucking air.

I dont think the car will run at all with those sensors unplugged. I know without the map sensor plugged in, my car won't run.

Try plugging them in. The motor turns over real fast because you don't have your belt on to turn the accessories.
