Default changing from 2.59 to 3.07 gear

I'm changing the rearend from a 2.59 to a 3.07. I have a 92 with an automatic. I need to know which gear to use in the transmission and any help on installing it.

There are several active threads on this very subject. Do a search on 3.07, 2.59, dana etc. and you find a lot of stuff. Might try to find 18carfan(hope that's right!) to supply the correct gears. Might also read the thread on which ratio to use. As I posted on that thread I went from 2.57 to 3.09 and am very happy but wish I had gone to 3.23 or 3.54. Hope this helps more than confuses...

if you are referring to the speedometer gears, there's actually another way around it. there is an item on eckelers approx $160 that will allow you to recalibrate your speedometer(seen it featured on corvette fever) . i think this will for for any pre 94 vettes. i went from 2.59 to 3.73s and i love it. eats up more gas though, but you can't have it all.

hope this helps.

Check my web site, part numbers are on there. Contact 18carfan, he can hook you up with the parts. You need driven gear and VSS.

I have read this item has been known to screw up the ABS. The VSS and driven gear is the easy part changing the speedo gears which is all that is needed for a 2.59 to 3.07 gear swap.

If you hook the part up correctly it will not damage the ABS. It is much easier then having to pull the tail housing off the transmission.

I agree that the 3.07 are great but I would go a little higher in gearing also.

I don't know about the ABS, I recommend it to somebody and I got a bunch of replies saying it screwed up their ABS. In this case of the VSS, driven gear, and labor is cheaper than the electronic speedo converter.

Anyways, the swap for a 2.59 -> 3.07 doesn't involve removing the tail shaft, becuase you can use the existing 17 tooth drive gear. You just need to remove the VSS and driven gear and replace it with a 42 tooth driven gear and appropriate VSS.

This is exactly the info I need as well. I just bought a Dana 44 with 3.07's to replace my 2.59's. I would appreciate any info on where to get these parts and cost as well. Thanks

Yo qkvette, what kind of gas mileage are you getting in city and highway driving. I'm interested in putting new gears in the '95 6 spd but I'm looking for the best gear ratio the gives good performance but doesn't affect gas mileage too much. Any suggestions?

For anyone reading this post thinking about doing this to an '88, I got this response from Jeff (18Carfan).

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think these are the PN's I need.
Sensor/Sleeve
P/N 10456089 - $20.74

Drive Gear 42 Tooth
P/N 25007308

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Actually, you need the following:

P/N 25513049 42 toot Driven Gear - $5.68

P/N 25007308 Sensor - $56.82

The 10456089 is a sensor for a different year. Let me know if you would like me to get them for you. -Jeff

i normally drive 80 mile a day, down here in so cal and i'm getting around 17-18mpg. i was getting 19-20 before, but keep in mind it is now a 383. i think because you have a 6sp w/ a .50 ratio 6th gear you'll get better mpg. (how about 4.09s ? :seeya
