Someone jogged my memory as I had a question about these. The holders that hold your top have little rubber cushions in them. When your top is in place, you have a limited amount of movement to put things underneath. My top has actually cracked from being moved to much, but that's another story.
My question is this. Are the holders suppose to pivot at all as a piece or are they a solid piece? Meaning, is the rubber there just for a cushion or is this what your top pivots in also? If the whole piece pivots, I might (and others might) need to make sure they are working properly.
David,
I think the rubber is only supposed to give you enough play to get the top in and out. I don't really think it was meant as a long term storage, and probably not meant to be moved around so much like a pivot point for a lid. But I could be wrong. :seeya
If you are referring to the rear storage mounts which are fastened to the rear wheel wells, they do not pivot in my 86, the bolt directly to the wheel wells and the rubber is just there for cushioning. I just replaced mine. Got them from Jeff at superior chevrolet. Thanks again Jeff. If you are damaging your top during removal from storage, you may bee lifting it too high before removing it from the storage mounts.
