Default Interior lights not functioning

Wish I was able to attach a picture...but the only lights that currently come on when the doors open, etc are the ones behind the seats. All the other auxillary lights are off. Looked at a few fuses on the passenger side airbag area with no luck. Any pointer on how to troubleshoot this?

Really appreciate it, you all are the best!

Yep, fuse would be the first place to look.

Ill check first thing in the AM. But yes, cd/radio/clock...all works no problems at all. Seems to be isolated to just the interior lights

On my 88, if you leave the hatch open but the doors closed, the cagro lights remain on indicating a different circuit. I believe there's a timer relay involved with the interior lamps. Unfortunately, my 88 FSM doesn't help.

Do the in door lights come on when you press the switches in the doors?

Do the cabin lights come on when you use the headlight ****?

On my '88 there is a Courtesy Light Delay Timer behind the RH side of the I/P near the multi-use center. It is a rectangular object strapped to a large wire bundle, with (5) wires attached.

The Wht wire goes to the cabin lights to supply a ground path, the Blk wire is the ground path when the timer is active.

If you jumper the Wht to the Blk wire and open a door the lights should come on, assuming you wiring is the same as mine.

Default Interior lights on a 95

On a '95 the rear (cargo) lights are fused separately from the interior (courtesy) lights. Cargo lights are on F37 and the courtesy lights are on F36.
Additionally, the courtesy lights are fed through a relay located in "...socket E inside the relay retainer module under the right side of the control panel".... I really can't tell from the diagram but it looks like this is on the passenger side of the dash above the hush panel.
There's another fuse, F38 that feeds the relay but it also feeds the door chime (tone) and the Instrument cluster. So if your instruments are lit, F38 is OK - But fuse F36 or the relay E could be bad.
Hope this helps

If the cargo lights are coming on, the Courtesy Lamp Relay is good.

Fuse F36, RH CTSY ( 5 amp fuse) is probably blown or not making good contact. There should be 12 volts on that fuse all of the time. F36 is located in the fuse panel on the passenger end of the dash. Pull it out and examine it or swap it with another 5 amp fuse.

I'm not sure if it is appropriate to put my problem on this thread or not... It is related. Someone can correct me on this issue first (posting in this thread).

I have the opposite problem on my '87 coupe. My interior lights go on when I open either door, but NOT the cargo lights. The cargo lights only go on when I open the hatch. I checked the FSM and it appears there is a connector that is under the right side dash. The connector is supposed to go to the cargo lights. I just can't find that connector. Does anyone know where this is? I am assuming that is the problem. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Regards, Ed

Yes you should have started another thread but here's some info. about your problem.

If you open the rear hatch, remove the center black plastic trim piece that covers the rear hatch solenoid/latch . Under that trim piece and to the right side / passenger side of the latch mechanism is a very small black plastic housing. If you pop open that piece there is a small circuit board inside the housing. It contains 3 diodes.

On a 89 the color of the wires going to the module are Black wire to Pin C, White wire to Pin A and two black wires going to the same connector Pin B. The diode that goes to pin A is most likely bad. The module has 3 diodes but only two are used so if one of the diodes is bad, you could unsolder the bad one and move the unused one in its place (make sure the polarity is correct) or purchase a replacement diode from Radio Shack for less than a dollar.

Hooked On Vettes, thanks for setting me straight about the hijack. I should know better, I have read more threads/text on this website than all other reading on the internet! And an even bigger thanks for the info on my problem. It was one of those small things that I thought I was just going to have to live with. I can wait to get into it next week when I get back into town.

Thanks also to 956Vette! Regards, Ed
