Replaced a burned out bulb in my dash today, one of the 4 #882 bulbs that show oil pressure .mpg and temp. The new bulb lite fine and after I bolted the face plate back together it did not work. Took it apart again and noticed the bulb worked but if you touch it it would go out. that tells me the socket is bad. Any where I can get some info on how to get to the scokets as my FSM gives no info that I can tell. I do not have a chilton manual so Im in the dark on where to start.
You will have to remove the cluster. The sockets can be removed from the rear. IIRC, the metal cover on the back of the cluster has to come off, and MAYBE the next panel as well; this is where I forget. I'm sure someone else can clarify.
To remove the cluster, the headlight **** has to come off; column tilted lowest and the tilt lever unscrewed, radio/DIC bezel removed, and the cluster bezel removed. Probably wouldn't hurt to loosen the dashboard as well.
There will be 4 recessed screws holding the cluster in place, a 1/4"drive extension and socket will remove it. There are 2 tightly fitting harness plugs to the right, and the cluster will come out. Its a tight fit between the upper dash and the panel below the cluster, so be careful not to scratch anything.
