I own a 90 vette, and my engine dicided to leak anitfreeze between the block and the head. i Want to make it a stroker but now dont have the time to do all the research i wanted. Does it matter what 383 kit i buy for my vette, or will any 350 conversion kit work. my next question is, where is a reasonable place to buy one. thanks for all the help
You need a kit for a one pc rear main seal, roller cam motor. Internal or external balance is an important question. I believe the 90's are internal on the front and external on the rear. My 89 had a weight on the flexplate that had to be removed when I made my 383 internally balanced. Any good supply house should ask you what year motor, etc.etc.etc. Scat and Eagle seem to be popular stroker kits.
The answers to all of your question have been addressed many times on this site. Do a search and you will find the answers. You could order an assembled short block from one of the popular engine builders. They would know exactly what you need. Mine came from www.golenengineservice.com.

Were you able to use your stock DM Flywheel and OEM clutch??
I have an automatic. I purchased a new flexplate just to have a new one. I could have used my stock one if I removed the weight. I don't know what the DM flywheel looks like but I assume it has a weight on it somewhere to balance it. Talk to your engine builder about it. If he's any good he will know. You may have to provide the flywheel to him when he balances the rotating assembly. I had to do that years ago when I balanced another engine.

I had called Golen before I had my LT4 redone. And when the Machine Shop told me that the Eagle Crank (350) was about the same price as a 383 I said go for it, but he too said a SM Flywheel was needed with a 383. So I went with a Eagle Crank, Forged Rods and Speed Pro Hyper. .020 over pistons and even thou Eagle said they were Balanced he Re Balanced everything, even my new Duel Mass Flywheel was installed with the crank when it was done. I was in a hurry to get the Vette back as I drive it to work every day. I wish now I would have done more research on the 383.
