Is this a steering rack replacement?
I have an 86 that I'm trying to get back to being a car again. The steering was a mess. The wheel wobbled quite a bit, which turned out to be a busted column. I replaced the column, but when you turn the wheel from center to left it grabs, almost like it's sticky for a second. Lock to lock is fine, this only hapens from streight to left. There are no leaks anywhere. Steering rack you think?
replaced mine with a rebuilt delco unit from the last detail -

When you turn the wheel the whole way left or right, does something sound like its in pain? That's another good indication the rack is worn.
You could try to flush and fill the fluid, adding some lucas power steering fluid to the mix. Many have had success with that, if the rack isn't too bad. It worked well for me (though a new rack is in my future).

I'll change the fluid, eventually, just so I can run it a bit. This thing is a mess. Not sure if the previous owner did any maintenance at all. But, I'll throw a new rack on the list. thanks again.
