I have been trying to find out the following. Any help would be appreciated:
I would like to know what the difference if any there are between the rear calipers and rotors of a standard C4, GS, C5, and Z06 besides paint. If anyone has this answer, please let me know.
Also, if their are any differences besides the paint in the Z06 and the C5 that would also be greatly appreciated. The only things I have seen so far are "I think the Z06 are supposed to be stiffer, or lighter, or stronger" but I haven't had anyone say they are sure.
I'm looking to upgrade with new brakes before winter.
Thanks again

Re: Big Brake Specifics/Differences (92TripleBlack)
From what I've heard, other than the paint on the Z06 Calipers, they are the same as stock. Only difference is they get a higher performance pad. I asked about this sometime ago in the C5 section because I was curious why all Euro spec cars (coupe or conv.) got the Z06 Calipers. The better pads was the answer.
Re: Big Brake Specifics/Differences (92TripleBlack)
I know that there is no difference between the std C4 rear and the GS rear (except the calipers are black).
I don't know about the difference in the C5 vs Z06. I do believe they are identical, as is the front. Check in the C5 section, they should have the answer.
Yes. A man with information. I want to know how the rear calipers and rotors are different between the C4 and the C5. I also want to know if it is worthwhile and possible to upgrade to C5 specs on a '92. Lastly, I want to know if there area any differences between C5 and Z06.
Thanks

Re: Big Brake Specifics/Differences (92TripleBlack)
The rear rotors on a C5 are 1 inch thick, 12 inch in diameter. The drum is 7-1/2 ID. The C5's returned to a rear parking brake drum.
The front rotors on a C5 are 1-1/4 thick, 12.8 inch in diameter.
There is no difference in the C5 to Z06 calipers other than they are powdered coated on the Z06.
Yes they are availabe for installation on your C4.
For several pages of brake components and C5 brake adapters go to http://www.electro-dynamics.com/ and press the "C5 and C4 Brakes" button in the vertical column on the left, on the home page.
I e-mailed Jeff Kopp and he graciously replied. Here is his response:
Most of the rear brake differences are just appearance on the same MY's.
Your '92 are the same as a GS just not black. Keep in mind that the C5 rear
brake setup kinda took a step backwards as far as the emergence brake goes.
They use a separate set of parking brake shoes like the 84-87 C4's did. I
haven't seen anybody put rear C5 calipers on a 88-96 yet however it may have
been done. I also do not show a different P/N for pads specific to a Z06.
The C5's all use the same P/N pads. I've read that the Z06 calipers may be
heavier duty but if there's a way to tell by comparing them I haven't found
it. I don't believe they are any different except for the pretty red paint.
Hope this clears things up for everyone. I'm going to get a C5 setup for the front, maybe with the Z06 calipers. I'm going to paint the rear to match after a good cleaning and get some eradispeed rotors, a bias spring, and SS lines. If I get into trouble with this set up shame on me!
