Default Help installing LT1!!

Guys-

I feel like an idiot. 24 years of working on cars and I can't seem to get my LT1 back in the engine compartment (94 MY) and the mounts lined up. I don't even have the flywheel on it and I stll can't seem to solve this geometry problem.

ANy ideas? I hadn't tried lifting the front of the car to better align the mounts and hoist. I have a load leveler and the chains hooked to the back of the pass side head and the alternator bracket on driver's side.

I tried with the mounts on the engine and the mounts on the frame. Can someone please help?...I'm so embarrased....:o

this should be a plug and play deal. The mounts slip into the holes on the frame, and thats that. Is the transmission installed? if so, I would get that bitch outta there, it will do nothing but make this a bigger PITA.

Pull the mounts off, period! You install them when the engine is in place, it is a little tight, but not too hard.

I kept the entire mounts bolted to the engine and just dropped them in the frame holes. I left the intake manifold off until the engine was installed. This made for some more room at the firewall. You can't drop the back in at an angle or the front pulley won't clear. Good Luck

I always pull the mounts and install them once the motor is in place

I drop it in fully assembled. Shouldn't be an issue. Do you have the mounts installed correctly? IIRC, on the block there are a couple extra bolt bosses and if you used the wrong ones the mounts will be in the wrong place.

Found another of my photos. You can see the extra boss on the block....

Also be sure to leave the mounts somewhat loose so that you can position the motor mount stud to pass thru the hole in the frame mounting bracket. For the posters with early C4s (pre '92)....the later cars use hydraulic motor mounts that are different than conventional motor mounts

Thanks guys!! I'm on it this afternoon. I also had advice to remove the harmonic balancer so that it better clears the crossmember. Report coming later!

When I dropped the engine back in the 95, taking off the balancer made it a lot easier to align the mounts with the frame.

Default It's in...

Pulled the balancer off and the pass side mount. Dropped it in. Had the driver's side sitting in the frame. Lined up the horizontal bolt, banged it through. Jacked the motor up and slid the pass side in, and I was home free.

I still feel stupid about this, but I think I was just in the wrong state of mind with no patience.

This forum ROCKS!!
