fist of all the car is 89 vette w/70,000 miles. when you drive the car sometimes it will just cut off like there is no fuel. took car to gm dealership they kept it a few weeks to diagnose the problem. it did it to them, fortunately it threw a code for maf. they replaced the maf on 2 diff occasions. the problem still exists. usually if a maf is bad it just wont you rev past certain rpm. you could be cruising 55mph and all of a sudden no fuel. it will do it one day, then it might not do it for a week. im thinking it has to be fuel related maybe pump going bad or wiring is going bad. can anybody enlighten me as were to look, because chevrolet dealerships have not been able to fix the problem.
From what I have read here the best thing to do is tape a fuel pressure gage to your windshield and drive around. Then at least you know if it is fuel pressure or not.
What??? A dealership cant fix a Vette
Shocked Shocked
Your symptoms could be a lot of things
Bad ground comes to mind first, ECM second
You should invest in a service manual Best $100 I ever spent

Your HEI Dist. has to provide spark of corse but it also has to provide pick-up coil feed back to the ECM. The ECM need this signal to determin if and when to fire the injectors.
It is also the ECM's way of knowing the RPM the engine is turning.
Your tack receives RPM signal from a different way so you will not see this on your tacK.
If this feedback signal is interupted for any reason, the injectors will stop firing.
Intermitting issues are the hardest to troubleshoot.
You will probably need a good scanner attached to your ride when the problem occures.
i have a 94, but from what i understand your vette still has the same hei, except no vaccum advance, that has been around since 74. check to see if you have spark the next time it quits on you. if no spark it's going to be the module in the distributor. i've replaced many in the cars i've had, and it always fixed the cutting out problem. they become heat sensitive over time.
