Check the link onthe first post. I tend to believe it as Joe Sherman is one of the most respected builders around. IMO a modern day Smokey Yunick with the SBC.
I have not read whole threads but dam 615 HP out a 383/195 heads, this thing will definetly blow head, Rick hold on tight. Rick I have a great news for u, "I saved bunch of HP by switching to AFR 195 heads".

Good catch Ron (cuisineart).
Sami. What are you talking about? Merry Chiristmas Sami, and I hope you have a good 2007.
You changed your heads? And if you did, What do you mean you saved a bunch of HP?

Sami -- they may not show the Geico commercials in Canada .....
why is it so hard to believe? lingenfelter was making 480 hp out of a 383 with stock ported 113 vette heads and a small cam . so i think aftermarket heads and bigger cam would have no problem making 560 hp on even a 350.

I like the part that Sherman said he did not even get the tune up right.
My buddy runs a dyno service. If he build the motor, he gets the tune right. The pride factor is very high.
Unless it is an off the street customer that wants to run and tune his own stuff, the dyno guy gets the tune right. As I said, it is pride.
Very impressive build up, and just the beginning of whats to come when you understand the importance of good flowing parts. That build up doesnt cater to an efi setup though. I think the article says that Joe was pressed for time due to meeting a magazine deadline and didnt spend a lot of time tuning, but it was probably in the ball park. You will lose some power when you use a cam ground on a 112 mandated by the computer. Also the efi intake choices other than a reworked single plane with a direct mount throttle body without elbow, will compromise power numbers also. All in all, a good flowing head with good low, mid and max numbers will remain the most important part of a good motor.
I've known of Joe Shermans' engine building skills since the '80s. He always gets big HP, and this was a mild motor for him. I'd really like to see him get a hold of the CNC Competition 195s and see what he comes up with.
my 355 is preety mild and the sig says what it runs and weighs 3300 race weight you figure it out how much hp i am making and i am useing a set of 8 year old afr 195 heads
