Default head porting

OK lets try this, two schools of thought here. The ports on my new Edelbrock heads are bigger than the ports in my TPI base, should I A) open up the base to match the ports and get maximum flow or B) leave the ports with a small step to act as anti revision valves to the intake charge since I will be running a Crane cam with 270deg of duration? Install it as is, go to the strip and get time slips. Port it out, get another time slip and let us know which is right.

Might depend on how effectively your exhaust works, but I'd gasket match the intake side. Leave a small step on the exhaust side.

Port the manifold (or get an Accel large mouth manifold and runners) and port the plenum and add headers. The early TPI suffers from major restrictions in the intake and exhaust. The TPI was actually designed for the 305 engine. :flag
