Default Stock Lifter Question

Pardon if this has been posted before. I did a advanced search and didn't find any answers to my specific question so here goes. Also, I think I already know the answer but thought I'd throw it out to the experts here on the Forum first.

I am preparing to install a LT4 hot cam in my 94LT1 in a while and I'm still gathering parts. I currently have 150,000 miles on the stock motor. I'm not fanatical about oil changes but do them fairly regularly and use Amsoil synthetic. do I need to replace the stock lifters with the lifter kit available from GM performance parts?

I don't want to buy the whole Hot Cam kit because I already have a set of ported heads with new springs and valves installed. All I really think I would absolutely need are the 1.6 rockers. What is the consensus? Pushrods are cheap, so I'll probably go that way but could save a bunch by reusing lifters if I could.

With 150,000 miles on the car you definately need to replace the stock lifters.

You can get the complete GMPP lifter kit from Van Devere Olds for ~$200.

Here's my $.02. I found myself in the same position a few months ago. I purchased the Hot Cam kit. The reason, the cam by itself was @ $210 and the GM Perf. roller rockers were @ $320 = quick math @ $530. The kit is $550, I didn't need the springs, keepers, guides, etc... but I sold them to someone locally and recouped some $$$-always someone w/ a F-body around . Pushrods with 150K? your call--it may be nothing wrong with them. I know you'll inspect them for wear on the ball ends, etc... but visually you're not going to pick up fatigue. I'd change them but I'm a bit picky when it comes to putting things back together. It must be the aircraft mechanic part of me, I do tend to replace more than some. Good luck, let us know what you decide.

Yes, Yes, Yes. Why put relatively inexpensive parts with 150,00 miles back in your swap?

Thanks guys, this is the answer I thought I'd get, and it does make sense to me. But, I thought it might be worth the question. You never know.

I guess it does make sense to buy the whole kit and sell the springs.
