Default No air intake/filter

Hey kind of an odd question but I dont know much about it. I recently purchased a cheap-o car that barely runs and it doesn't have an air intake (or a filter obviously), and a friend of mine said that the particles taken in due to the lack of a filter would soon destroy the engine.

According to him even if I put one on now (not sure how long it was run without one) the engine would still be doomed.

I know what the air filters do, but what happens when there isn't one?

a lot depends on the drive... if it's the desert, he's right, your boned. If it's a rainy place, no biggie.

I would get a cheapo filter on it ASAP, tho... and change the oil.

what kinda car is it?

Who would go around without a air filter period. You can get one for like 6 bucks at autozone....

its a 1989 Honda CRX. Im in washington so yeah it is pretty rainy, but I have no idea how long it has been without an intake.

And I THINK (this is just my guess based on the mods done to the car) that he liked the 'sucking' noise that it made without the intake.

Bought the car for 500, selling it for 650

Only gauge that even partially works is the speedo, electical is fried through most of the front half, clutch is going out, rear hatch glass needs replacing, half of the dash lights dim at low RPMs, alignment is out of whack, and the radiator needs to be replaced.

All in all it is quite the impressive POS but it looks like more than I feel like fixing so its being sold...I have just been having some doubts. This guy who wanted to buy the car before I got it wants the thing bad, but I dont know why since he says its going to die.. The exhaust sounds beastly and it has a couple performance add-ons but I figure ill just make my profit, get a cheaper junker, and invest the saved money in the vette

Yea, it sounds cool but you also get a sound with the K&N and open lid. I would try it with no filter if I knew it wouldnt do harm but I cant risk tearing it up just for a few minutes of fun. Id be walkn too school.
