I have a '95 coupe and I was driving down the interstate the other day when my rear glass popped open. My PKE light came on in the information center at the time. The key fob was hanging from the ignition key. I pulled over and I could here the release pop every 10-15 seconds. I finally had to shut the car off and remove the keys and it finally quit and I could shut the hatch and go on my way......any ideas as to why this happened?
Thanks, Stomper
No idea how that could be happening, but I will say this...the PKE fob that came with mine was slightly abused and wouldn't stay together too well. Each time I would grab the keys (holding the fob) the hatch would open. You may want to open her upclean it with a good electrical cleaning spray and replace the battery while you're there.
I eneded up buying a new one and since then I replaced the battery in the old one and crazy-glued it together permanently and no more probs!
I bought a new fob off ebay a few months back, ya, I've hit the glass pop button by accident before, it is clean. I wondered if the battery may be getting weak and caused the problem...or maybe just a ghost

I wonder if the original fob is still in the car. And it was pinched just right to cause you grief.
Have you explored all the little places that coins and dead frenchfries hide?
BTW isn't it amazing that a six month old french fry can look like it's only a couple days old?
I belive you have a short circuit ( maybe a hot wire) somewhere because the system should be dissabled when the engine is working. That is a precaution just to avoid what you just described.
The button that operates the hatch that is installed in the door and the one in the console should be cheked.
