trans problem pete help me please
hello im new an looking for help. i have a 85 vett, just picked it up. when crusing at 40 to 60 mph the trans shifts up an down. when coming to a stop, at time it seams to lock up unless it hit the gas. when i say lock up i mean, its like comming to a stop with a standered trans but for getting to push the clutch in. i was told it my be the torque converter clutch solenoid. is this true, where can i get one?

It does sound like a possible lock up problem. To quickly check this, crawl under the car and disconnect the whitish colored electrical plug on the drivers side of the trans. If the problem goes away with it unhooked, it is most likely lock up related. If memory serves, the 85 has 1 normally closed pressure switch in the valve body, as well as a solenoid. The pressure switch is a dealer item. The replacement solenoid can be picked up in the aftermarket or at the dealer. Before swapping check them. Solenoid should ohm test between 18 and 28 ohms with 20-22 ohms being typical. Pressure switch is tested by putting air to it after it is removed. If air leaks out of the seam, it is bad. Hook a continuity tester to it also to check that it is opening and closing. Assuming my info is accurate(I am going from memory at the moment), switch and solenoid are less than $50 for both.
