Default Heater Core hints or tips needed

Has any one changed a heater core on thier vette?

I have a 84 with a faulty heater core that needs to be changed. I was getting condensation on the windshield, and then noticed a small puddle of antifreeze on the passengers side floor after using the heater.

The car came with the shop manual and this looks like a major job. Any advice??

Do a search, there is a lot of discussion about this task. I did mine on my 89, took a couple nights after work. I did it the long way, taking out everything. Complete PITA job, but doable.

Use the search engine and look for the "Fastguy method".

This thread might help although the Fastguy method didn't work for me either. This thread has a link to some pics from and article that might help.

I checked out the threads - looks alot easier than taking the whole dash apart. We have been putting it off as a winter project & winter is almost over (i hope). Now if I can just find a free weekend.

I did mine on my 87 and it had a pinhole in it. Pressure check it first or you might have to do it twice. it don't hurt to have two elbows too. good luck.

That thread is Golden. I pm'd the guy that posted the Magazine article hoping that he has the actual article to re-scan.

Don't be intimidated by the scope of the job.

Last summer I did my 1st heater core in the '88 IROC-Z and it really wasn't so bad, rather tedious.

Follow the shop manual, take your time and keep all screws & bolts well organized.
