My Bose CD player in my 92 convert has finally quit working. It will not play a CD. It does not seem to find track
1. The radio and the cassette work ok. The cd player took longer and longer to find track 1; but when it did it would
play the rest of the cd with no problem. Anyone have any suggestions as to the cause or know of any repair shops
in or near Indianoplis Indiana?
Having repaired my Bose CD player 4 times (and it is currently broke), here is what is wrong. The very cheap Panasonic player that is internal to radio, does not have much in the way of vibration damping or anti-skating features. Going over speed bumps, potholes, bridges, etc. knock the optical scanner out of alignment. The only fix is to pull the radio out, remove the CD player, and replace the entire unit. Cost has been around $500 for removal and replacement. If you are selling car, don't bother with the hassle. Takes like a week or two to get it swapped out.
My cd player is out too- same problem. There are so many probs with this cd player- that it's the bread and butter for a number of fix-it shops. The repair runs $150 or so from posts I've seen here- I just haven't wanted to mess with it yet. I think Scorp used someone recently too. I remember a place called United radio that did repairs, and there's a place called corvetteclinicinc.com too. good luck.
My cd did the sane thing! I Fixed it with a cd head cleaning kit; the cleaning cd has a small brush on the play side that wipes the dust from the head. It works great now !! :hat
Paul is right, get rid of the bose. You are lucky the CD is the only part of it that is having problems. When I used to have the bose it worked about 15% of the time I drove the car. The rest of the time it would either make static out of the two speakers that worked, or be stuck on some country station.
The CD player in my 94 crapped out. I pulled the radio and a local shop replaced the internals (CD and tape player) for $125. I put it back in and it works like a champ.
