Default late C4 headlight motors run 5 seconds

'92 Corvette - when the headlights are turned on or off, the headlight motors continue to run for about 5 seconds AFTER they are all the way
open or all the way closed. Also, when the parking lights are turned on then off, both motors will run for about 5 seconds (doors do not move).
I suspect the headlight control module but I would like to get confirmation before I spend the $$$ to replace it.
Thanks, Bob

The plastic bushings in the driven gear was the problem. I have put together a set of instructions to replace the bushings in a 1992 Corvette. The directions are from hood up to hood down. The file, including pictures, is 1.3meg. Request the file from redvette100@hotmail.com

You need to replace the bushings in the gear assembly. Mine were completely gone and had the same symptoms. $15 fix. No need to get the bronze gears mine were fine. Check out midamerica.

I agree, it is the 3 little bushings that can be bought from any corvette catalog. Easy fix.

Thanks for the replies. I have the bushings and they are being installed. I have had some problems with the instructions and as a result I had to remove the armature from the aluminum case as one of the armature cover screws snapped off and I had to have it drilled and retapped. Getting the armature cover mated to the aluminum housing looks to be a real chore because of the brush springs.

Yup, as others have said, it's your Delrin bushings. They turn to dooty typically within 8 to 10 years of normal operation.

Once I saw what was needed, compress the springs and retain the brushes in the slot, it took me about 4 minutes and the cover was back on.

I used ECKLER"S bushings/bearings - 29304. Package of 3 needed per headlight.

In most cases, you don't need to remove the main gear shaft anyway. Just the large plastic gear that drives it. I was able to tap the gear out with a small hammer, insert the new bushings, re-install the main gear, then screw the motor housing cover back on.
