Default $1F bin editing question

I'm new to the chip tuning scene, and for the last 2 months I think i've read everything that I can find about the 1226870 in my 85 vette. In the Constants "Number of Cylinders 0" why is this 0 in every bin file I've looked at? What would happen if you put an "8" in there? Has anyone ever tried this?

STOP!!! You'll BLOW it up!!!!! only kidding...the 0 is hexadecimal...i think if you look, it corresponds to the decimal 8....

Don't ask me why, but this is the format for cylinder select:

Num of Cylinders:

8 = 0000 0000 or $00
6 = 1100 0000 or $C0
4 = 1000 0000 or $80
3 = 0110 0000 or $60

Please excuse my ignorance when it comes to code I just never needed to know it till now. Tequilaboy are you saying I should leave it data filled as " 0 " or an " 8 "?? All the other tables, switches, constants, and flags Im somewhat got an idea on how they all interact with each other. But this one I dont even understand why its even there. But thank you both for your help I appreciate it!!!

Sorry for any confusion.

Leave it at 0 or $00 (hex) in the bin file. That is the correct setting for 8 cylinders.

The value is used to determine rpm along with the time period between distributor reference pulses.

The number of cylinders or pulses per rev must be known to determine the rpm.
