Default Removing Dash??

I'm unfortunately not able to do it my self at this time, but how long does it normally take to remove the Dash on a 96 LT-1? Besides the airbag, are there many issues to deal with besides just unbolting half the car?

I'd really like to do it myself, but without a garage, I'm not comfortable leaving the car in the driveway in pieces (even if it's just the interior). I'm having to replace the tempature actuator and just curious how feasible it is to do myself if I need to get in there again down the road...like for the heater core.

Well, you can do it in the drive IF you take lots of photos, bag and tag EVERYTHING, and write down every move you make as you disassemble.

Having said that, you would do the same thing in your garage, wouldn't you? So...now the only difference is, the car's simply sitting outside, assuming the weather is relatively comfortable in the first place.

You need to take all those bagged and tagged parts inside OR just put them in the cargo area.

The big pieces, like the console, trim plates, side trim panels, and "upper trim pad", which is actually the dash cover, all really need to be indoors. Mine stayed on the dining room table for a couple of months.

For a marvelous step-by-step pdf with color photos, search for a post by Jet-Jock on heater core replacement. If you can't find it, pm me and I'll email it to you.

Good luck.

I'm not sure how much stuff has to come out for what you're doing. Just the dash pad, or the whole dash frame?

I've got the whole thing out of my car and it probably took me about 3-4 hours total, but I'm real slow with stopping to clean things along the way, etc. OTOH I already had the seats and console out, so that was probably something of a head start.

So I'd guess 3-4 hours for the whole thing, 1-2 hours if you really just need to take off the pad and other access panels, which is what I'm betting is the case.

This is my 93 coupe with the dash pad removed. Not very hard at all, all the vents have screws inside them that need to be remved. There are screws behind the radio panel, under the fuse box,,,,. My 93 does not have the passenger side airbag.

Give me a few minutes and I'll search it. If I don't find it, I'll post so and email it to you. We'll fix you up, one way or the other.

Where is this actuator located?

Is this the actuator all the way at the right of the car? If so, I don't think you need to take the dash pad off. Should be able to do it from underneath similar to the "fastguy method" for changing the heater core.

I think he's referring to the vacuum actuator the changes the ac to inside air or recirculate. It's the one with the orange vac line, if I'm not mistaken.
