2-piece timing chain covers
mine's an 85 coupe - I posted some time ago about my harmonic balancer slipping apart and wearing a hole through the TC cover. I did a temporary fix that is working fine using JB weld and some RTV sealer, but am thinking that one of my next projects will be to do it right and put on a new TC cover. I like the look of the chrome ones and they're pretty cheap on ebay but I have a couple of questions if anyone has experience with these parts.
First, I've been told to stay away from chrome because they don't get rid of the heat and they are quick to warp and leak. Anyone have this experience to support this claim or have you had good experiences?
Second, what about the 2 piece covers...the first piece just fits around the stud holes and alignment pins and has the lower lip that seals around the oil pan, then you slap another full gasket onto this piece and slip the cover over the crank snout and tighten her up. I've heard that these 2 piece units are prone to leaking. Again, any experience to confirm or contradict this?
Thanks!
