Default corvette won't start after sitting?????

Hey guys I currently own a 74 corvette and am in the process of selling it to buy an 85 with 27000 original miles. Well the 85 has been sitting with a dead battery for years and after we hooked up the battery we get crank but no start. it doesn't sound like the pump is running. I've read that when they sit for a long time you have to ground the connector in order to make it run butr i need some instruction so i don't hurt it!! anyone have ideas?

well, it's probably sour (bad) gas, that would be my first guess. When you turn the key to the ON position you should hear the fuel pump relay activate the pump for a couple seconds..but even if the relay is bad the oil pressure switch activates the FP when oil pressure reaches 4#s by cranking the engine. If you look above the drivers knee you'll see the ALDL, where we hook up scanners, there's a top row of pins...and ONE on the bottom left, you can apply 12 volts to this pin to also activate the fuel pump, but I don't think you'll need to do this. And if you have a fuel pressure guage you can hook it up to the schrader valve on the passenger side fuel rail..valve looks like a tire valve..hook it up, turn the key ON and see if you get pressure there.

rick lambert is correct. I would siphon the old gas out and start with new. The fuel pump is more than likely siezed up from over the years. Mine did on my 86 after sitting over 4 years. Check for spark on all the cylinders also. Is there a code stored?

Energizing terminal G of the ALDL will send 12v directly to the fuel pump and will until the source is removed. A fuel pressure guage will come in handy here. Make sure there is adequate fuel pressure and if still no start, check for spark.

How Hard Is It To Change The Fuel Pump? Do You Have To Drop The Tank Or Is There An Access Panel?

Fuel pump swap is one of the more easier things to do on these cars. You have to open the gas lid, remove the 4 screws. Pull the lid off and remove the gas cap and rubber filler neck. Make sure to block off the gas hole som no trash falls in. After the rubber filler neck is out, put the cap back on and use compressed air to blow the trash away. You will see three lines, a three wire connection and nine bolts holding the fuel pump assembly down.

The top right line is the fuel feed line..disconnect it and plug off the ends. The bottom right line is the fuel return line...do the same. The left line is the EECS or vapor canister line....do the same. disconnect the wiring. The use a 10mm socket, 6" extension, and 3/8" ratchet and remove the 9 bolts. The bolts have o-rings on them...replace if needed. After you pull on the fuel pump assembly you will see a gasket on the tank....replace if needed. The hole assembly pulls out with a little twisting. From there it should be self explanitory. Reverse for installation.

Take the pump off the assembly and apply 12v and a ground to it to make sure it's froze or not. If it does nothing, replace it.

Ok so instead of watching the super bowl I put a fuel pump in and have good pressure but when i was trying to start it , i noticed I have no spark. I'm going to change the module in the distributor cause i know those can be troublesome. Do you have any other ideas I don't want to just start throwing parts at it! I wan't to hear this thing run sooo bad!!

Ok, I checked all the fuses, replaced my module, and coil, and I still don't have spark but I noiced that the bat wire going to the HEI is not energized. What energizes this wire, and what do you guys think my next step should be? When I first got the car my ecm was disconnected and I reconnected it. Any advice is greatly appreciated

Bat wire is powered through ign switch in the run position.
Info from my 86, but should be helpful on your 85.
