Question for PeteK re/ cooler
I just ordered a radiator with a built in engine oil cooler so I'll have to go to a larger, stand-alone cooler for the transmission. What size/capacity will I need and is there any particular type, brand, etc. that you'd recommend? Thanks in advance, Chris
Chris,
I have the lagest cheap Autozone cooler on my car. The weight rating escapes my memory. Although I do not have one, most froum members seem to really enjoy the B&M model. I believe Frank (Mojo) has the correct part number and some damn fine photos too. A little cooler goes a long way. Sorry I did not have a better answer, but bigger is better
Available space limits your choices.

The one I have now is about 9x14 inches and the tubing makes six passes through it. It cools the tranny very well in conjunction with the factory one. But do you guys think it'll be large enough as a stand alone?

Pete, I think it was on bowtieoverdrives where I read that running a big air-to-oil cooler is a bad idea in cool weather. I think they recommended using the radiator cooler to keep the ATF at a consistent temperature for longer life, or else a thermostatic bypass on the air cooler. I'm not sure what the temp leaving the rad is, maybe 150-180 or so?

What are your thoughts on this?
I've thought about this too since I drive mine year around. The idea of having a water-cooled engine oil cooler is to get my engine oil up to temp quicker, particularly in colder weather. I'd like to retain the same capability for the transmission. Any and all ideas on the subject will be appreciated. Thanks for bringing it up. I know I could rig something up to take care of it, but a reasonably priced plug and play system to achieve this would be great.
