Default cam with same spec. but more lope.

I have 87 vette with zz3 engine. I ported the heads, intake plenum, intake, gutted maf, ported the stock exhaust manifolds, 1.6 rr, force air induction, ported slp siamese runners, 2500 stall, pcmforless chip, and 2.73 gear. Car runs very well. 7.84 best 1/8 mile time at 89.5 mph with 1.80 60' time, 1/4 mile 12.52 at 109 mph, this with injectors that have 85,000 miles on them.would probably have run better if I knew how to solve the pinging problem. I feel this is very good setup, but I would like more lope without changing the characteristics of engine performance. Can anyone suggest a good cam that would give me what I am looking for?

To get more lope you will have more overlap and so gain up top and lose a little on the bottom end, that's the way it works.

If you like lope get a cam with 110 LSA.

That's absolutely correct as narrow lobe seperations do not have the idle quality of wider lobe seperations and you'll also give up a tiny bit of fuel economy and drivability for not enough power for you to even notice it. Sounds like a lot of effort for.......sound.

Thanks for the advice guys. When you look at it, Its not worth the headace and money just to hear more lope. As for as the gears, I plan to add a 100 shot to take care of that.

If the ECM is pulling timing but you do not hear ping, try the ESC upgrade on my site, story included there.

A set of coated FL headers with a pair of hi-flow cats will wake her up too. A single hi-flow cat will be too restrictive for the flow you need.

BTW, at 12.5sec & 109mph you are getting about all the current engine setup has to offer in the 1/4 mile.

A camshaft with tighter L/S will give you more lope at idle. Also due to the increased overlap it will bleed off cyl pressure and lower your Dynamic Comperssion Ratio, which would help with your spark knock problems.

The ZZ3 is not an overly high compression (static or dynamic) engine thou and with alum heads it should not spark knock unless you have the timing off badly or really crappy gas.
