R134a High side service port fitting conversion quesiton..
I'm converting my 1993 C4 to R134a and the high side service port dosent have a screderer valve in it.. its some kinda plastic thing.. the manifold gauges dont read the high side when I use the srew on adapter.. What do I need to do?
All ready converted or did someone replace the line with an R134 quick connect fitting maybe? I've never seen a plastic fitting for either gas - plastic caps, but the fittings are aluminum. Are you sure you've got the right connection? There's got to be something inside of it if it's a service port - do you see anything? I'd guess if it's OEM and the original, you need a different adaptor for your high side hose.
Its the OEM R-12 fitting.. it has an alum. service port.. with some type of plastic "schederer" type valve.. but its something weird.. donno..
We are doing the convert and are using the screw on adapters.. but this "valve" is in the orig OEM R-12 port that we are trying to screw to... in other words we are not able to get a high side reading yet..
Obviously you have something "wierd' as you say and we are all scratching our heads trying to figure if you are on the right fitting, have a previously moddified fitting, or what. Is there any way to get a camera and take a picture?

OK red cap fitting, you should get an aluminum adapter that screws onto the existing fitting. There is a spring loaded valve inside the fitting. Then yo ushould have a gage/hose/charging hose that you pullback the outer part of the connector on and it snaps onto the red cap fitting, after you screw on the adapter of course. So far so good?

It sounds like you are using a standard manifold guage. They sell the 134a adapters that screw into your standard set and have the quick connects on the other end.
