I got an 86. Never had a problem, I'm going home from work, I hit a little bump in the road, bam, It quit running. I tried to restart, it turned over, but would not start. I had it towed home. The fuel pump runs.(I put power to th G terminal) I connected a pressure guage on the fuel rail. 42 pounds or so. I released pressure and the flo hose pumped fuel. It is like it is not going passed the fuel rail into the injectors. HELP, I need ideas.
Don't know if the bump in the road is a coincodence or not. Never-the-less, it seems you have fuel pressure. Have you checked for spark? Could also be a loose ground.
Check for spark (use ST125 or similar) & fuel injector pulse*. Make sure the Check Eng Light comes on when you turn the key on. (It should) If you have scanner access, see if it has any stored codes.
(*can hold a long screwdriver up to your ear, like a stethescope, with the tip on the injector. should clicking from injectors when helper cranks eng over)
I would check the ECM grounds as well. I have disconnected the MAF while at idle and the engine did not die. Just set a code and changed the idle. The chip in the ECM has a default setting incase something like that happpens and it will run in "limp home mode".
Making sure the cylinders are recieving spark and fuel is the first place I would look. Also you can use your finger on the injector connectors when cranking to see if you feel clicks.
Start the car let it run a minute ot two then slap the ECM with the palm of your hand (not too hard) if the ECM is bad the car will shut off immediatly. First time a service writer did that to my car I was astounded. The good news I did not get stuck somewhere and could not get home without waiting for a tow. Hope this helps
