Okay. It is clear that the TPIS will not bolt right to the oem exhaust.
Does anyone know if they will clear the x-brace on a convertible?
Currently I have Hooker shorties on and the B&B 3" catback and no problems with the X-frame. Now, when going to the EM headers, you need their extentions and you'll have no problems hooking up to the catback. At least that's what I have been told. I'll find out this spring if I get the extentions and Random cats. I'll even do a tech tip when I do it.
Thanks, Strick. I may contact Exotic Muscle and TPIS when I get back home (I'm traveling on business right now). I'm trying to understand the exhaust system on my C4 better. I bought a Magnaflow exhaust and am considering replacing the entire exhaust system. I want the ability to put the car completely back to stock when I sell it someday (another couple of years). From what I understand, installing the Magnaflow requires cutting.
Please keep me posted on your exhaust setup as you make the changes.

I'm happy with my SS Works. They bolt right up to a Corsa setup. EM makes extensions (pricey) that bolt up to a Corsa system as well. You will need to cut up the stock system with any LT system as far as I know.
I have coated Hooker 2151's and had no fitment problems of any type. Had to reverse the motor mount bolts, but that's it. (And they clear the cross-brace on a 'Vert, for those interested.)
Also had to have the muffler shop weld in an O2 bung when they fabbed-up the rest of the exhaust.
Quality is very good, and I've had no sealing issues or other header-related problems in the 2 years that they've been installed.
With the 2151's, the primaries are 1 3/4" and all very close to 28" long, IIRC.
I don't want to open a bag of worms over header design, but I can tell you that (according to Merle) EM uses primaries varying in length from roughly 28" to 32". The net effect is to broaden the torque curve and move it down the RPM band a bit.
I would also strongly consider 1 5/8" primaries over 1 3/4" unless you're
targeting 400+ chp. SW or Melrose or somebody stepped up with an 1 5/8" product after I bought the 2151's or I'd be running them.
This is my '93 with EM longtubes, extensions around tranny, hi-flow cats, and 3" B&B.
Lichen,
Thanks for the picture. That helps a bunch. I have EM on the top of my list for LTs. So the extensions and hi-flow cats came from EM also? I have a new set of Magnaflows ready to install. If I want to unbolt the entire stock exhaust and put a new exhaust from the headers back to the Magnaflows, what else do I need? A center resonator or x-pipe? Thanks!
Check out the melrose web site. We went with theirs and are quite pleased withthe fit, finish,(JETHOT coated) and quality everything will clear in the engine compartment. Easy access to plugs and such. Yeah they aint cheap!!! But in the long run could be best bang for buck. They will sell you just the parts you need and they are great to work with over the phone. wro87
Have the Hooker 2151's LT's with a custom three inch racing exhaust on my 396 LT-1. The high flow car sound cats are interchangeable with off road pipes that go back to XPipes and the Power Effects tuneable mufflers. Running with the Off Road pipes increases the HP another 3-5 and 10-15 across the torque curve.
During racing season the cats are off but still close the mufflers going to the track to keep the noise down. With the cats on and mufflers closed, the noise is not bad at all.
Been happy with this set up for the past six years.

I talked to Melrose, and their headers do not work well on a convertible. You have to put spacers under the x-brace and dent or oval the pipes.

Lichen, thanks for posting that! Its true that a picture is worth a thousand words!
but back to the thread.....
I have ordered the same setup from EM..and from talking to Mel....
yes things will fit just fine around the tranny IF you get the header extensions and aftermarket Cats...Merle stated that the original cats will not connect due to the fact that 1. they are 2.5 inch and the collectors are 3 inch and 2. their stock placement is too far in front of the car for the header extensions.
I orderered their 3" to 2.5" header extensions for $270, and a pair of random technology 2.5" cats, and they will line up at the end of the tranny tail housing as in lichen's photograph..
lichen was able to keep his resonator from his system...
merle indicated to me that due to the placement of my flowmaster system, I would be losing the resonator because its further forward, where the cats are.
