Default " machine down holley stealth base to fit"

hi there guys,
can the holley stealth ram base where the plenum box fits too be machined/cut/lathed down one inch or so needed instead of getting new plenum box made so it will fit under corvette hood?

is it possible some how to do it?

will this ldea work or not?

what is the total height needed to clear the corvette hood with the stealth ram?

any ideas or help would be great!
thanks guys
cheers
glen

No, the fuel rail mounts would be gone and the plenum would interfere with the rails.

I thought you hooked up with Frank in Florida for his plenum?

You can but the fuel rails bolt onto the side of the intake base, and the plenum overhangs "slightly" the fuel rail mount pads.

And, if you machine the base down you will lose your plenum bolt holes because the intake runners are flared on an angle heading toward the heads.

At 1st glance it looks like it will work but there are other issues.

Maybe I misunderstood Glen's post, but the base "to me" is the intake, and the plenum is the top.

Note also, that if you take 1" off the intake base, your runners are 1" shorter, making it closer to a Miniram runner length.

The simplest fix is what JOBY did, you just grind out the bottom of the plenum, like the pic above, and have it heli-arc welded to the intake, obviously,,,make sure it is leak free.

If you are on a budget, this would be my recommendation.

What I did on mine was merely just to try a different way that JOBY and yet still mainain the abiltiy to remove the plneum when I need to.

JOBY's plneum is "on for life"

Oh yeah, FUN FACTS,

the HSR casting's older than 12/31/05 have less material at the intake port hole for porting

AND the pre 2005 AFPR's are known to be faulty in that when you adjust them, they do not move the fuel pressure smoothly,,, my AFPR is a POS.

I called Holley and spoke to tech dept about the AFPR and they said " yes the AFPR's are bad but we will only replace them if you have are receipt from buying it new"

I ported my HSR to a 1206 felpro, so the casting/porting issue only matters if yo plan on going to larger heads than a 1205 felpro.

So, buy a new HSR , grind and weld it like JOBY, get a small cap distributor, re-route your fuel lines, get a thermo housing that fits or cut down the factory vette thermo housing and re-weld it, and you are back on the road,

Are you talking about at the flange to the head ? The one I've been working with was a real early one. I've have to do all sorts of weld on the flanges to make sure everything seals up right.

I've done some work over the winter.

Also head my heads ported and gave the porter the intake to match to the intake port. I'd previously ported the base and matched the runners to a 1205 gasket. The real nice thing to hear was that the base caused zero loss in flow or increase in turbulence as compared to the heads with a radiused inlet only. Heads flowed 317 @ .700" lift on his bench. He didn't bother with the plenum because he didn't have the throttlebody.

Either Larry's or Joby's methods will get the plenum under the hood. Also my cylinder balance problems from last year had a lot to do with things other than the intake. Hopefully I'll have better info this year.

What's with the NOS setup?

You spray fuel in the plate and NOS in the ports or vise versa.
Am setting up my HSR for NOS and have read of distrubution probs when using plate only.

What's cutting the manifold down due to the peak RPM?

I've got a friend with a GT1 car that wants to switch to EFI. He asked at PRI but noone had anything that would pull the RPM he needed. 9,000+ on 303ci

I use a FAST XFI for engine management. Part of the the software allows for nitrous fuel inrichment through the regular fuel injectors. There's 2 stages plumbed there.

Brian, cutting down the runners would up the rpm range of the manifold.

"If" a Miniram is unable to get to 9000+ RPM, then I doubt the HSR can make it either, I could be wrong and have no experience with 9k revs.

"Now Cole... when the little needle goes into the red and reads '9,000 RPM'...that's bad..!"

Seriously... you're probably going to have to go with a modified singleplane manifold setup for that RPM range.

QUOTE]

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that Frank made the plenums for Grumpy before they broke up.

Also, I met Dave at the Mid America Funfest in 2005, a super, super nice guy, and a very vette-knowledgeable guy to boot

Lastly,,, skyvet, bought a Super ram I believe.
