Eliminating Mufflers - Affects Performance?
on when i got it. complete with rusted holes and no baffles inside. everyone told me the car would be soooo loud doing muff. elim. even with the stock cats in place. well i did it any ways. the sound is perfect, NOT too loud! my exhaust is stock other than that. even the wife loves the sound, no resonance inside. best mod i ever did. its cheap and looks good.

I'm still waiting for mine to be "too loud". I guess I'll just have to see how that new cam will sound.
as for removing the mufflers, why bother.... theres generally little, if any real power gains.
and your car will be obnoxiuosly loud.
besides, as far as i`m concerned, anybody who drives around on the street with a loud exhaust, deserves a noise citation from every cop they run across...
If it proves to be too loud, i can always slap on some flowmaster junk, or get a nice Magnaflow system.
Hopefully tomorrow I'll have a little more growl in the rear

If you want a bit more torq put on a set of long tube headers.

You're TOO OLD...

just kidding...to each his/her own, I guess.
I prefer loud and my muffler eliminators are just right IMO...although they "may" be a little too loud this Spring with longtubes and a point and a half more compression...lol.

Thanks for the tip about making sure the tail end of the exhaust sticks out the rear, I'll make sure they do that....
Thanks for the advice...

but i`ve had this attitude since i was a teenager.it all started when i was riding in a freind`s (loud) car, and we were doing some street racing. all of the sudden, a cop jumps in behind us from a side road, and catches us in the act of making another run.
the officer informed us that he was about two blocks away, and would have never known that we were racing, had he not been able to hear my buddies car , and track us down from it...
several months later, i was racing a rather unassuming looking dark blue 78 Malibu, with my "arrest-me" red Trans Am. my car was rather quiet, compared to his. an officer witnesses both of us racing, and begins following us. before he hits the lights, we turned off in opposite directions, as the road we were on dead ended. and the officer decides to pull over my friend in the Malibu. when asked by my friend why he got pulled him over instead of me, the officer told him it was because he could write him up for both racing, and for excessive noise....
which he did...
plus, i`ve always been more of a fan of "sleeper" cars, that dont try to advertise their performance potential with lots of noise, rough idles, lots of visible modifications, ect.
