Hello all. The last two days, I have the most unusual experience with my corvette's factory theft deterrent system. Last night at 1:30AM while the car sat out in the driveway, the alarm for an unknown reason went off waking us up. Thought perhaps a prowler as there has been a rash of auto burglaries not to far from us. So we thought until tonight at 8:30PM when it went off without reason again. This is the first time this has ever happened. Anybody have any suggestions to why this is happening? I am also thinking of installing a keyless entry alarm system on the car so any help on how to remove/disable the factory system permanently would do too if that is what it takes.

With it being random like it is, I am thinking that one of the switches is right on the limit and temperature changes or any other movement make the switch break contact and triggers the alarm. Check the switches in the door and the back glass. Just my thought
Thanks so much for replying. I changed out the weatherstripping this weekend on the doors. The old stuff was dry-rotted pretty bad. Now the light switch on the driver side does not engage. I didn't have time to figure out if/how to adjust the swith itself so temporarily shimmed it. Now the light turns off properly but we had a cold snap here in Florida so perhaps that is it.
I can't understand why the switch no longer makes contact. Even if the weatherstripping is new and thicker, the door aligns properly when shut. Anybody know if there is a way to adjust the switch either in or out in its' recess (presuming it is even adjustable)?
The folks at this site ROCK! Most helpful car folks I have met in my couple decades of muscle restoration bar none!
Your problem is because the W/S was replaced. The switch on the door that has the two screws holding it is like a two tier system, there is the larger cylinder that moves in and out to make contact, then there is a 'plug' type that goes into the end of the cylinder, when you install this for the first time and shut the door the 'plug' is set but as the W/S degraded the 'plug' kept getting pushed in further, now that you have it replaced back to original you have to reset the 'plug' sometimes a pick and a screwdriver you can get the 'plug' to come out and then you can shut the door to get it set right or you might have to replace the switch. Sorry for the long explanation but look at the end of the switch and you will see this 'plug' thing that goes into the end of the switch.
