My 84 is overheating whenever i sit still for a while. I have found out the problem is that my fan is not turning on. I have checked the temp fan switch and when i grounded that the fan still didnt turn on so i know that has not gone bad. I also grounded the sensor on my compressor that turns on the fan when i run my ac and that did not cause the fan to turn on but i could hear it made the fan relay over by the power brake booster switch on and off when i grounded it so i think that relay is working too. Is there anything else i should check or should i just go ahead and assume that my fan motor has finally died?!?!?
Do a direct hot wire to the fan and see if it works... If you do the code reading, that turns the fan on... so check for codes, if fan comes on, it works.

you might want to clean the junk from infront of your radiator... helps
But no fan codes on an '84. Only the fan switch and the compressor switch run the fan. If 12 volts direct to the fan motor, with the motor ground in good shape, then the motor is bad. The black/red wire is the hot and the plain black wire is the ground.
Disconnect at the motor and use two small alligator clips to clip on the spades on the motor and run them over to the battery this will tell you if it will work, you can also ohm it to see if the windings are open. Just be careful that the connectors do not touch.
Oh yeah, if it is broken I have the whole assembly from an 86 still for sale, let me know.
