Differential Whine
I reported my problem in the forum (whine between 65mph and 75) and found some reports similar, but at different intervals. My "whine" (it wasn't served with cheese) could only be heard with windows up and radio off. It was strongest at 70mph. Really bothered me on trips where I cruised in the "band". I first noticed this prob at approx the 10,000 mile point. I didn't get responses from any one else who experienced similar noises, and since it was so subtle, I convinced myself I was just being "picky".
The whine semed to get louder, till I could hear it with windows down; I was at approx 16,000 miles. I took the car to a local dealer (I was nervous about this, but car under warraniy, and dealer recommended by Corvette Club). The dealer said I had a problem, and on investigation, found that the gears were improperly shimmed on manufacture, and replaced the unit. Dealer said the unit was on its way to early failure. After approx 100 miles driving, I am completely satisfied; the whine has disappeared!
BTW: I have an aftermarket warranty (7yrs - 75K) from CNA - they were extremely helpful - no resistance. I've had one other repair on this warranty - Check engine soon light - the warranty service was outstanding in both cases.
In summary, I'm grateful I found a repair shop who was "open-minded", and thankful I had warranty coverage. I probably would have scoped this problem earlier if I had several local buddies with Vettes, but am happy I checked with the local Corvette Club. I hope others may benefit from my problem. Of course, I'll keep you posted if situation reverts. Let me know if you have questions.
