Yeah i think youve taken me the wrong way there SunCr, so ill clarify abit on it, there is abit more work to be done before you simply replace a part like that, even if the issue is directly related to that part. It could be as simple as loose or bad connections at the MAF or the ECM. So what i was really saying is "in my opinion" its a bad idea to simply replace a MAF just cause the car runs better without it.

NavyVet89: Sounds like the dealership was just trying to kiss you before they .... you! What a ripoff. Keep on trying and you will solve your problem.

Yeah, they weren't even going to give me a reach around. It was running when I picked it up from the dealership and when I unloaded it off the trailer. It's at my Dad's in the shop now until next weekend when we get all the parts in and start tackling the replacement. I have the red service manuals (thanks to a fellow forum member) and have read over the process and it doesn't look too bad and we have a puller for the balancer. Thanks for the replies.

Sadly, it took the guys at the dealership where I had it towed only a few hours to get it back together. I never could get that damn dampner off. Man it makes me mad even thinking about that car.
Been there and done that. Opti went out in my '94 Z28 and it took forever to get the dampner off. Once the center bolt decided to play nice and come out I fought for another couple of hours getting the dampner out. That and getting at the bolts behind the pwr steering pulley. It can be done without pulling that pulley but you had better be very patient and ready to drop the bolt a few hundred times. To add insult to it a few months later the water pump sprung a leak and I had to repeat most of the process again.
