Re: MAT sensor relocation worthwhile? (Scott LeMuke)
Well scott, you don't gain any hp, but I noticed that the hot start was better. When the car was hot, and was shut off for an half hour, starting was hard. After I relocated the MAT sensor, I noticed that the start was a lot easier. So even for that it is worthwile [:D]
Re: MAT sensor relocation worthwhile? (Scott LeMuke)
I wouldnt do it. And here are my reasons-
When Chevrolet puts together a car, they don't give you all the best performance parts (High performance intake, better duals, high gears, bigger throttle body, etc) because of 2 things- The cost, and the overall performance for the EVERYDAY Joe Shmoe. Obviously, a person who just wants the looks of a Corvette is happy with 300hp, and doesnt want a 500hp engine in it. Also, Chevy doesn't want to put a 500hp engine in it because it will cost them an arm and a leg to do it, and will never get their money back, because not enough people want that kind of car.
So you might be wondering "What is the point?". The point is- the MAT sensor being in a different spot costs absolutely NOTHING to Chevy. So why didn't they do it? Because it is a way to swindle you out of your money. It might give you 3 hp... but at a certain RPM. And maybe run lean or rich during the other RPMs hurting your engine. I hope that the hundreds of people figuring out diagnostics of the Corvette would know where to put a sensor.
Bottom line-
DONT DO IT- Chevy intended it to be in the original spot for a reason.
