Ok, here we go..... I just purchased my first Vette . It's an 84 with a TPI. The car runs, but if you throttle hard, it sucks a lot of air, kicks down a gear, makes a ton of muffler noise, and doesn't accelerate despite the attempted effort. I noticed there wasn't a MAF. The ECM is 1227730. Isn't this a speed density ECM?
I'm not sure what engine you have, but here is a link of ALDL 160 baud
ECM's and as the author of WinALDL states it is not complete, I do not see your ECM on this list.
Tom
What MAF is it and how much do you want for it?
Thanks,
Tom
Thanks for the heads up. From what I have found is these ECM's are used in TPI conversions so that a MAF is not needed. They use a MAP sensor to compensate which isn't as accurate but more reliable ,from what I've read. GM went back to MAF in 90,91? Paid 125.00, fits 85-89, should be here by next week. Rather trade for something Vette.
Have you considered returning it to a CrossFire setup or is it too far modded for that to be practical??
Thanks. The only thing that suggests this car was CFI is the old wiring harness. This TPI set-up had me confused from the begining since it was on an 84. Had a post "Confused on 84". Owner I bought it from had it for 7 years and was like that when they bought it. I'll eventually figure out the problem and maybe I can help someone in the future.
Download the software for scanning and buy or make a harness and interface for scanning the 730 ECM.
For software try Datamaster, Tunerpro, Diacomm, and ECM852.
With this you will be able to see and diagnose what is going on with all the sensors, spark and fuel system.
There is also a forum for 3rd gen F body at thirdgen.org that has lots of information on 730s.

I believe the corvette used a 727 ecm for speed density (MAP) starting in '90, it is the same as the 730 except it was made to be water resistent because it is mounted in the engine compartment not inside the car. Also has special waterproof connectors. And it interfaced with the digital dash (CCM).

Sounds like somebody repinned it to the '730. Thats the ideal setup, IMO. I repinned all my N/A cars to '730, and boosted cars to '749.
If you can do a scan (using tunercat, or datamaster) of the problems your having i'll look it over for you and give you some advice to fixing it.
Don't switch to MAF, and don't switch to crossfire.
