Besides all the little problems Iv been having lately due to not driving her for about a month,I took her out today and ( I have an automatic) she goes into 1st no problem but when she goes into 2nd the cars RPMs bolt to around 3500 and im only going around 20mph,I can feel it slipping,I put her in low 1and 2 and the trans holds fine,no noises, clanking shes smooth but just doesn't hold 2nd,the last time i drove her she was perfect. I checked the trans fluid and its as sweet as new,I had a complete trans flush about 2500k ago.Anybody have this problem and what can i do next ?? Thanks
Overhauls aren't that bad. I got robbed on mine cost me like $2400, but I also changed the TQ, and installed the shift kit. I'm sure PeteK remembers me doing it last year... I was going nuts!....
Tough question to answer. Local labor rates will determine alot of the price variables. Parts used/upgrades vary greatly as well.
I stronly recommend rebuilding the unit you have, rather than swapping it out.
I just completed a build for another forum member in New Jersey. He dropped off the trans and I made major upgrades to it. Along with the overhaul, we used thse h/d parts:
Alto red kit with kolene steels and h/d 3-4 clutch kit
Teflon pump and tail bushings
kevlar band
beast reaction shell
4th gear billet servo
bigger pump boost valves
new sprag (29 element) and lo-roler clutch
Transgo shift kit(supplied by customer)
Input drum reinforcing sleeve and cryo'd forward piston
etc
His total was less than $1,250 including the cost of the shift kit.
Torque converter was not included.
This represents the low end(price wise) of a heavy duty build.
Stock builds are much cheaper.
Thanks pete, its just a nice weather driver,im not looking for any mods or upgrades,I just want a quality job done so i can drive her and not worry about it happening again...
From the sounds of it, you need the following (in my opinion):
Remanufactured torque converter
rebuild
beast reaction shell
upgraded 3-4 clutch kit.
If you can remove and replace the trans yourself, you can save a few hundred bucks
