Default Diagnostic software for 90

Can anyone suggest some scanning software for my 1990. I want to run it on my laptop. I know where to get the OBD1 cable, but I can't seem to find any software info for my year.

TTS Data Master.

For a '90-91 Y-Body 5.7L PFI (L98)', download 'DM35x8D - Complete Installation'

You can use moates free software or TunerPro or TunerPro R/T shoot me an email & I'll send you the 8D definitions I use on my '90.

Do popular tuners like PCM4Less now accept logs generated with
Mark Mansur's TunerPro?

Dean: I have been following the problems you are having with your 90 Vette. Some forum members have suggested you get a scan and it appears you are trying to do this. A word of caution: when you get this new tool you are going to have to learn how to use it. I have had Turbo-Link (http://www.turbo-link.com/ @ $279 for cable and software) for about a year and I am still learning how to use it. You may have the same "learning" problem once your purchase your scan tool. A suggestion for you: contact a Corvette Club in your area and ask who they would recommend you use for this task. Most clubs know where to go for this type of service. Another option would be to find anyone with a auto dyno as they will also have a scan tool. The last choice and most expensive would be the a GM dealership. When you walk in to a dealer with this request, all they will see are potential $$$. Good luck.

Let me add they won't have a single, solitary CLUE about what you are wanting to do either.
If you are LUCKY, VERY LUCKY you may encounter someone that 'knew' a guy one time that did this.

Here's how I do it om my '91.
1) I use DataMaster for scanning on my '91 which runs the identical system as your '90.
2) I use TunerCat for modifying the EPROM data base on what the scanned data indicates should be changed.
3) Then I use an EPROM burner to read/write the new data to the PROM.

It's a little confusing at first because it's difficult to understand which product does 'what'.
But it simply breaks down into the first three sentences above.

There's no 'all in one' product that does everything.....
When you understand the three concepts:
1) Scanning for data (UNI File)
2) Reading data FROM the PROM (BIN' File)
3) Writing data TO the PROM (BIN File)
You're well on your way to EPROM programming.

After that you'll spend a lot of time learning to intepret the ascnned data you collect and how it relates to the tables in the PROM.
PROM data is arranged in 'tables' just like any other database system.

Take a trip over to the DIY EPROM programming section of this forum for more info.
Good luck and have FUN..........................

Is a reasonable compromise to get the basic tools necessary
to scan and log, then engage the services of someone like
Alvin at PCMforless?

This approach puts him on the road to self-sufficiency, if that
is his destination, while reducing his initial learning curve, outlay
and the risks of self-inflicted tuning errors.

I have a 91 and got the moates cables and the rt-tuner software . I just wanted to read / record info and didn't want to venture into doing the tuning my self . It took awhile to get it going and Craig from moates actually talked with me on the phone @ great lengths to get it up ( I highly recommend Craig @ Moates Great customer service ) . The only problem now is ( I noticed it after getting off the phone with Craig ) It won't record anything for me . I can watch the #'s live but am unable to record them. I got the cable and software shortly before putting the car up for storage so i haven't been able to play with other software to try to get it to record . I'm just posting this to give U my experience with the rt-tuner software for are cars ( I think the 90-91 are the same when it comes to this ) . Although other members with a 90-91 might have had better luck on the recording side with the RT software .

Good luck and I'll be interested in hearing how U made out ,

Thanks guys, I spend lots of time talking to my mechanic at work learning about my car. I like to pittle with lots of things pretaining to my vette. This would be another useful tool. I'm so wrapped up in getting it to run perfect that I will try whatever it takes to accomplish this. ( I hate taking it to a shop, they take it somewhere out of sight and make a halfass attempt to figure the problem out, whatever I say doesn't make sense to them, they say "its OK" and take my money). I'd rather spend that money on a tool and learn how to fix it myself. I know it my take longer and I'll loose my sleep over it but it will increased my knowledge of the problem and I will conquer.
