Need Carb Guys Help.. Fuel Pump
I switched to carb and I need some advice on how to keep my in tank fuel pump...When I put a switched 12volt wire to the relay it starts fine keeps the pump running but when the ignition is turned off it keeps running untill I remove the wire..Pretty sure the oil pressure switch unit has something to do with it since it's in the relay also.Have you guys kept your in tank or went with an outside..I'd realy like to keep the intank Just need correct wiring...Thanks
In the stock setup the ECM primes the pump through the relay then the oil presure switch supplies 12V direct to the pump while engine running.
What wire on the relay did you connect to?
the green/white is the relay operating wire
The feed to the pressure switch is hot all the time , if pump runs continuous , maybe the switch is stuck in the closed position.

Thanks for the reply...Without the switched wire I can hear and see the pump primeing for the few seconds..but after that it shuts off...and will not pump..even when the engine started..No Ecu engine controls..when I put the switched wire in the red wire in the relay it will continuesly(sp) run the pump..Which is O.k....But when the Ignition is turned off the engine still runs untill I pull the switched wire out of the relay....Should I forget the relay and hot wire the oil pressure switch or just put a two wire relay on the fuel pump itself..Or pull the red wire out of the relay and used the switched wire directly to it..I know there has to be an easy way to do this
The ECM runs the pump for 2 seconds when the ignition is turned to on. Then it waits until it receives the pulses from the distributor that tells the ECM that the engine is turning (cranking or running), before it re-starts the fuel pump. With a mechanical advance distributor, the ECM never gets the signal to re-start the pump.
If the engine continues to run with the switch off, you have more than one problem. First, the switched 12 volts to the fuel pump relay apparently isn't switched, if removing it kills the engine. But even so, turning off the ignition switch should kill the power to the ignition system and shut off the engine, whether the pump continues to run or not. It seems you have several problems, at a minimum.
