is the stock resonator on a '93 very restrictive? I was going to remove it and add a X pipe. I know the X pipe will help but how much flow does the resonator restrict? any ideas on a X pipe that doen't cost $200.00. seems high for such a small piece of pipe to me.
i have 92 and looked into exhaust options. first i read that the stock lt1 exhaust only gave up about 10 hp (at the wheels i believe) to the aftermarket ones. also i read that stock the exhaust back pressure is 10 inches of mercury at the 300hp peak at 5000 rpm (this is in march 1994 corvette fever page 50 )
in any case at 175000 km (109 000) miles i replaced stock system and installed flowmaster cat back system. the sound difference alone is worth it;
now if you remove the resonator the interior noise may be unbearable;
if you are looking for more hp and it is legal where you are at why not delete the cats and install appropriate chip
I don't think your resonator is very restrictive at all. I put muffler elims on my 92 and it was quite loud. To me loud is not very restrictive. I know, this is not very scientific, but I think you'll find that 92-96 exhausts are quite good.
For what its worth here I did remove my resonator (95 MN6). Its a straight thru design. I installed a Magnaflow X-pipe and the only real difference is in the sound. There is less resonance in cabin and I can here the exhaust a little bit better. No hp gains as far as I can tell.

rgr but thought there might be a kit or something !!!!!!!!!!!
I didn't know if it was just something that was fabbed with a generic magnaflow x or if it was something bought and easy to put in
There was a post with a picture of the insides of the resonator on here a while back. If I remember correctly the inside pipe diameter was very small. I'm sure someone else can respond with the exact pipe size. An x-pipe will not increase the sound, at least on mine it didn't.
I upgraded to the LT4 resonator on my car, in addition to a muffler change. Though the '90-92 LT5 resonator is a lot narrower than the LT1/4 resonator.
