What would be required to squeeze a measly 300 horsepower of an 89 L-98. Plans include exhaust and hotter ignition. Air foil, tornado would I have to do a cam change and get into the motor, it's just a
street toy or are there easier ways, maybe I cpuld just lose 40-50 pounds and lighten things up.
Yeah, you're gonna have to get into the engine, and get some forced induction, and a crapton of money.
If you just want to get to 300WHP then I'd say some intake work should be your first stop. I'm not that familiar with L-98s but I've heard a ton of talk that thats your weak link. Hopefully some of the L-98 guys will jump in here for better info.
the easiest way (maybe not the cheapest) is a supercharger. No question. But if that is not your style, you are going to have to open up the engine. All the bolt-ons out there aren't going to free up 60 to 70hp.
If you are looking for a noticeable increase then start with the exhaust. Headers and a free flowing full exhaust will put you around 250 rwhp (peak) but it is a 40-50 Hp increase @4500-5000 rpm vs stock. If that isn't enough of an improvement then...1.6+ RR's, heads, cam +super Ram should put you in the 300 rwhp ballpark.

Thanks Vetters
300chp would be fairly easy. 300 at the wheels requires some work.
No airfoil and no tornado, no need for expensive ignition parts because stock HEI will be just fine with the TPI engine.
there are more details on my website, but longtube headers, bigger base, ported plenum, AS&M Runners should get you to your 300chp level. Further would require a cam change.
I dynoed at 275 hp, 305 tq to the wheels with 12 degrees of timing, a Miniram and a free flowing exhaust. About 330 hp, 365 tq at the crank. This explains my low 13 second passes with 105 mph trap speeds. I'd hope to do better with my 2.5" true dual exhaust.
