Default Fuel pump ??????'s

Drove vette yesterday and ran fine.Started it about an hour later
and it just cranked over for about 3-5 seconds and no start.
I shut it off ,tried again and it started. But now the idle is at 500-600
rpm. It seems like it is barely running and very muffled exhaust note.
It is a 6- speed, but it always had problems starting but never like
this. I have set the timing before according to the forum an dhad great
results. When driving it and i mashthe go pedal,it accelerates like a
bat outta hell. I grounded A&B terminals and got NO codes.
The idle before this was in between 700-800rpm.
Does this sound like a fuel pump on it's way out??
Give me some ideas i want to drive it,but don't need stranded either!!!
Thanks,
Matt

First check FP at the fuel rail.

Before you replace the FP , pull that assembly and clean the contacts as they come through the mounting flange, see C4 tech tips.

I just had similar problems with my '91 and had to put a fuel pump in it and now it is great. It was starting hard after it sat overnight and if I accelerated slowly it didn't do anything for the first part of the pedal and then took off after that. It was fine at WOT so I didn't think it was the pump, but it was. Try checking your fuel pressure. I took the intake plenum off to get better access and turned the key to on not starting it and you should have 40-45psi. I didn't use a gauge since it was $40 I just hit the shrader and figured it should spray pretty good with that kind of pressure and it just trickled out so I decided it must be the pump. I got one at Murrays for $50 with a lifetime warranty. Mine changed through the gas filler door and I think yours is the same. It changed in '89 or '90 and I can't remember which. If it isn't like that you have to drop the tank which requires serious work, hope you don't have to do that. Good luck!

Thanks, I will have to buy agauge for the schrader valve. I think ACCEL
makes one that mounts on the rail permanent. I need to check the Summit
catolog,i think they sell them.
Started car t-nite and idled at 800rpm,did not drive it though. I will get that
gage asap, I need a new tool anyway!!! :D
Thanks,
matt
