Default HVAC Question

Hey guys,

Spring is coming, and yesterday it reached a wopping 50*F in NY. I had to take the windows down, I have been waiting since Jan.

Something I just noticed recently; I have a 1989 L98 Vette with the digital heater/AC controls. Now, the AC isn't working, theres a leak somewhere in the system and the R12 leaked out. On my 82 Vette I did a 134A conversion which worked out GREAT. Thats a project coming up for the month of April. Back to the controls. Im driving along, with the heat OFF, and the temp turned all the way down to 60 (the lowest), yet the car is still blowing really hot air all over my legs and face. How is this system setup?

How does this unit function? Is it Vac operated, motor driven? What am I going to need to do to get the system to omit cooler air to the inside of the vehicle? I was thinking maybe a door was stuck or something but I am not really sure how the system is controlled. As for the AC when I do the conversion, will the system turn on if the temperature is under 70*F or is it the type of system that will only omit AC if its really hot out.

I know this is not a good explanation but I can't seem to find the words.

when the AC should be on check that the compressor is engaged by the magnetic clutch. If you have a leak problem too low of press will not alow the press switch in the system to close and engage the clutch. This press switch is the systems temp regulator since in a saturated system the press is indicative of the temp of the refrigerant. If the press drops too low due to not enought ref in the system the system will think the refrigerant is cold and not energise the clutch for the compressor. Ergo check the press on your ref testing port

Agent 86,
Thanks again,

Thats EXACTLY what I was looking for, and it seems alot easier to read then what they would normally give you.

Just one more question... how hard is it to get in behind the dash and get to the vac control modules?
