What about dropping in some of that cooling system cleaner/flush stuff and letting it work then reverse power flush it?
Tell those knuckle-dragging mouth-breathers to be very gentle when handling the heater cores tubes!
The core is old now and where the tubes go into the core body is delicate. As you've found out, replacing the core is an expensive PITA.
Thanx for updating the saga.

ok so $139.00 for a heater core flush and well.. it blows luke warm now... not hot.. but luke.. and I hate to say it but I do detect a slight antifreeze odor...
Im so disgusted I just drove the car home, put her in the garage and put the cover on. I figure I just wont take the car out until its 85! lol
But seriously I guess I have to do the whole big shebang and get the heater core! My question now is .... should I try running the heat even if I smell a lil antifreeze?

It's flowing through the heater core (or trying to) whether your running the heat or not. It won't make any difference to not use the heat.

No reason not to. The coolant flows thru the core no matter heat on or heat off, so no harm can be done. Did they also check the flow limiter valve in the inlet hose (5/8" lower hose) to be sure it was clear and functioning? Put some clean paper towels on the pass side under the heater area, drive it/run it, and see if the towels get wet.
Seems like it's a little better, but I'd be concerned about the smell still being there. If the core is leaking, that coolant can end up on the carpet and I don't think you want to replace that also. And, a leak means it doesn't have full pressure, so the boil over protection is less. You still might see if an a/c shop is any cheaper. They don't have anything better to do in winter anyway.
After changing water pump had no heat and the system is full. One hose hot but only to where the check valve was, beyond that just warm. The return hose barely any warmth at all. So I squeezed the hose before and after the check valve in order to create an oscillating flow to dislodge any debris. It worked !! From no heat at all to scorching.
