Greetings all! I have recently purchased a 84 corvette for my wife and have some questions. First off I need to remove the front bumper to get to the parking light it has either broken off on one side or had the mounting screws or bracket come loose is there any place that has a bit more detailed instructions on how to remove this front bumper to get to the parking light housing. I have the 84 corvette maintenance manual and chiltons but it really is not that thorough in the removal process. Secondly I just noticed the top has just cracked in the middle is this common for this year? I had the blue smoke I assume acrylic top and I believe it was one that had been repaired could the repair just fail and it cracked, were the securing screws too tight? Not sure what could have done it. Overall my wife is very happy with the car as am I considering the age of the corvette. Any insight help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Gene
the tops break... You can't over tighten the bolts to the point of breaking the top... it's time and chassis flex that kills them. Not too many years interchange with 1984, so it's best to get a new/reman from Melrose. Stay away from Astro.
To replace the bulb, you can reach behind the housing ... but it sounds as if you need to replace the housing itself. You're right, to do that you need to remove the front bumper fascia. There's a picture in the FSM (factory service manual), section 2. There are a number of screws attaching the fascia to the wheelhouse seals, upper support bar, air dam, etc ...
Thanks all got the fascia off and repaired the parking light instead of having to buy a new one! was a bear and took me about 5-6 hours to do it. Course it will be easier if I ever have to do it again! Gene
