Default Electronic Climate Control Buttons

Have an '88 C4 with the electronic Climate control. The buttons do not seem to respond to the touch. I can change fan speed and warmer and colder red and blue buttons. But trying to change from defrost, to bi-level, AC, seems to be very delayed like push the button wait wait wait and sometimes it changes. most of the time not.

Is this a swap out of the whole control panel or is there a common fix?

Thanks again for all the help

Do an electromic climate control search. There are a couple tips on tech tips also to resolve this problem. (sometimes). I did the go-round with this 2 years ago on my 88. Finally bought a used (working) one on ebay for 100 and all is good since. By the way, I spent over 600 at a local 'vette shop' that told me they could handle this problem 'no sweat'! They were a joke. It was replace parts and hope it works with them.
Try the tips in the search feature or in tech tips first. Good luck. Jimbo

Some times it can be a real simple fix. The contacts in the switches can get dirty or slightly corroded. You can pull the unit out and carefully use electronic contact cleaner and some canned "air" to blow things out gently.
Here in Florida we have a long period from fall through winter and spring where I don't use my AC. The first time I try the climate control after a long layoff, the buttons don't do anything. Everything comes back to life after I push each button a bunch of times. Seems like the movement cleans the contacts. Try this first, and if it doesn't work take the panel out and clean it.

Thanks for the quick responses. I'll try the contact cleaner.

let me know if it works, and on my car, when I push the different AC buttons to the vents to the face, only the green light turns on, so i know the button works, so what should I try to look at next?

I took my climate control apart and cleaned the cuircuit board where the buttons push down on. Not much to it, hardest part is taking it out of dash. Fixed my hold the button down until it worked problem.

Mine always seems to come to life when I punch the side of the dash (passenger side) where the unit is... then the buttons work great, for a while.

Cheap fix.

I agree with ES. I disassembled and cleaned mine with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip. It works ok now. Just be gentle with it. benny
