, I have a quick question, every once in a while my headlight on my 89 won't come up and lock, more like just the passengers side and most of the time there is no problem at all? Any ideas on what might be happening and how to fix it?
Hint: Home Depot, Ace, True Value and Lowes all carry bushing that fit (diameter = .49" X length = .43" or 27/64 x 29/64) , are a lot cheaper and you can get them right away without waiting for UPS, FedEx, or the mail.

Change the 3 derelin bushings that serve as a "clutch" for the motor drive. Cheap, easy and simple fix.
If you are not familiar just do a search on this forum.

Thanks Jerris, sounds like you and wildride are on the same page with this, that's what I'll do!
Wildride, thanks for your help, got to the first light last night, about 2 1/2 hours and it was working like new, hope to get to the other one tonight. The link to the instructions where great, thanks again!
my passenger headlight, will flip everytime, but then shakes and does not lock in place? maybe my problem is the bushings??
Could be. Are you hearing a characteristic, THUNKA-THUNKA-THUNKA-THUNKA- THUNK! noise four to six seconds after the door closes? That's another telltale symptom of failed bushings.
See the post above from Wildride, it has a link that not only tells you but shows you how to do it. It took me about two hours to do the first one and about hour and 15 minutes on the second. It's not bad at all.
Both now work smooth and quiet and lock in place. Pay careful attention to the placement of the spacers when you take the motor off. The rest is pretty straight forward. I had never done this before and I followed the links instructions and had no problems. I taped a piece of tape, both vertically and horizontally on the corner of the lid and inside hood to give me a starting point to re-install and align the housing. It was just a starting point but it did help when aligning the gap around the light. Good luck!
If you have glass lens on your head lights that will wear out the plastic bushings quicker, they make lights with plastic lens that are much lighter to help prevent the wear. Gordan K. told us about them at a semminar I can't find the part number but they are ava. at most auto parts stores.

You can buy them online at Mid-America Motorworks (MAM) too.
Plastic Headlights-
They were stock on the 95 and are much lighter than the glass ones. Two plastic units appear to weigh less than one glass unit. I replaced my glass ones with the plastic units and they open much faster so I'm assuming this means a lot less strain on the motor/mechanism. The light output is good and appears the same as the glass.
They were/are made by Wagner and the bar code number is 427223 56054 .
Model : Plastic Halogen HP6054 They are available thru NAPA autoparts.
Even though most of the NAPA stores carry the plastic units, I had a hard time discovering them as the store computer defaults to the glass units so use the info above to find them. They're about $22.00 each
