My 86 has been EGRless for 3 years and not one code.
Can't comment on gutting AIR pump, I tossed mine in favour of an eliminator.
If you use the search engine (current and archives) you will find the gutting info.
I did the same thing...no egr, no cats. No codes. You will need to block off the EGR tube inlet on your intake manifold. I just run my pump as it ran before (no gutting). I will be fabricating a pulley set up so I can take that stupid pump off. For now...it pumps air into the engine compartment & my car runs great.

From yanking it, you wont throw a code. Eventually you'll reach EGR conditions and a code 32 will set though. Mine only does it in hwy use on very hot days.
