Default Gen 7 DFI Mounting Question

WHere is the easiest and best location to mount my Accel Gen 7 DFI?
Will I need to drill 2 giant holes in my firewall?

If anyone has any pictures to post I would greatly appreciate it.

I dont want to buy any additional harnesses if I can avoid it.

Thanks in advance to all.

Hi Larry

I don't know if this will help you as I use a fast system not a Accel, but
I found the easiest spot to install my unit was on the the passenger side of the car. Under the hood, I made a bracket to hold the unit that runs from the evaperator canister to the fender brace on my 88 c4. When I work on the programing all I do is run my cable from the inside of the car out from under the hood,to my lap top threw the window. No holes in the fire wall and I kept all the stock harness in tact. I found all the cables to be long enough and easly routed out of the way. I hope this helps you some.
Good Luck

Brain,
First of all thank you for your reply.
Do you drive your car in any inclimate weather at all?
I am a little leary on putting it under the hood. It may end up the final spot after all if I cant get this thing going soon. I have had it for a year and 3 months and it is still sitting in the box.

I am hoping someone has some insight to the interior install.

Hi Larry

I do drive in the rain but not in the snow etc. The car is parked right now, but I will be out in a week or so when the salt and snow are off the road. The fast unit I use is not affected by rain but I don't want any salt in it ,or on the car.

You have had your unit for 15 months and not used it yet. I am sure you will find after you install your unit, you will wonder how you did with out it. I had a good tune from Jesse on the forum and was happy with it, but if you like to play you need to install your system an get to work on it. It takes some time to get the hang of it, but the flexability is fantastic. You can do all the mods you want and make the changes to the tune as you need to.

Good luck
Brian

Thanks man, I am thinking that under the hood might not be all that bad after all.
Do these units run really hot or do you think i can get a weather tight enclosure for it.

Thanks Larry

I find my fast unit gets warm but not hot. One side of the fast unit has a heat sink. With any luck one of the forum members or tuners with the same DFI 7 will be able to tell you for sure.

Good Luck

I don't know if I'd consider it the easiest, but I've found that it works well for me.

MORE mounted my FAST system in the compartment behind the driver's seat. Since we used the FastTrack harness to integrate the FAST system with the OE ECU, we ordered a longer cable end from the FAST to the FastTrack and relocated both the OE ECU and the FAST ECU behind the driver's seat in the compartment. The wires were all run under the carpet from the stock ECU location to the rear hatch compartment.
